Planning Your Project

How Do I Get Started With My Fireplace Project?

vintage outdoor seating

The easiest way to begin is to visit the showroom, call our team at 608-788-7200, or contact us online. We will talk through your project, answer your initial questions, and help you determine the right next step. There is no obligation and no pressure attached to that first conversation.

That said, a little preparation makes the first conversation considerably more productive. Here is what helps.

Step one: decide what you want the fireplace to do. Ambiance, supplemental warmth, a design focal point, or a replacement for something that no longer works. This single answer narrows the field faster than anything else. Our page on what type of fireplace is best for your home walks through how that plays out.

Step two: gather the basics about your space. Photos of the room from a few angles, including the full wall in question. The wall width and ceiling height. The dimensions of any existing fireplace opening. A note about whether you have a gas line nearby and whether there is an existing chimney or flue. This is enough for us to tell you what is realistic.

Step three: collect a few inspiration images. Anything you have saved that appeals to you. Taste is much easier to show than to describe, and this shortcuts a lot of back and forth. Our gallery is a good place to start if you have not gathered any yet.

Step four: get a rough sense of budget and timeline. Neither needs to be precise. Knowing the general range lets us point you toward options that actually fit rather than showing you the whole showroom. If financing would help, we have financing options available, and it is worth checking current sale items.

Step five: come see it in person. This is the step people are most tempted to skip and most often glad they did not. Flame, scale, and materials all read differently in person. See why a showroom visit matters for what to expect.

A note on timing. If you are building or remodeling, involve us before framing. If you want a fireplace ready for winter, start in late summer or early fall, since both installation and service schedules fill quickly once the weather turns. If you need service on an existing unit rather than a new one, the same seasonal advice applies.

Whether you are replacing an outdated fireplace, planning your dream home, adding warmth to a favorite room, or creating an outdoor gathering space, La Crosse Fireplace Company is here to help you bring the project to life. You can browse our full product range any time, or read what our customers have to say.

Visit us at 5154 Mormon Coulee Road in La Crosse, Tuesday through Friday 9am to 5pm, Thursdays until 7pm, and Saturdays 9am to 2pm.
